『 Exposures 』 と題された本作品は、『 Exposure 』 だけではなくロバート・フリップの1970年代後半から1980年代前半の作品、及び未発表音源を含めた同時期の音源をまとめたボックスである。
キング・クリムゾンの楽曲の場合、それが1960年代まで遡ったとしてもレコーディング・データはそれなりに揃っていた。 複数メンバーによるバンドとして活動する結果、移動を含めたその行動に制限があることは勿論、「キング・クリムゾン」という有名なバンドの活動だけに自分達以外もその記録を残していたためである。
方やロバート・フリップの活動となると、そのレコーディング・データは必ずしも正確には揃っていない。 個人が故に活動が機動的過ぎたこと、「ロバート・フリップ」の活動となると必ずしも客観的データが残っていなかったこと、そしてフリッパートロニクスを筆頭に識別が困難な楽曲が多いことがその原因と思われる。
その結果本作品には事実に加え、事実と推測されること、曖昧なこと、そして事実誤認の混在比率が高くなってしまっている。 勿論記録魔であるフリップだからこそ、その比率は低く収まっているのだが、キング・クリムゾンのアーカイヴ作品と比べると差が出てしまっている。
ただそんなことは勿論、私を含めて多くの方にとっては餌の提供に過ぎないのかもしれないが。
本作品の内容は多岐に渡り、かつそのボリューム自体も大きいため、便宜上10のカテゴリーに分けてまとめている。 カテゴリー分けは公式なものではなく、King Crimson Data Base 上でのものである。
