The Complete 1969 Recordings - 50th Anniversary Editions -2020-

    本作品は1969年のスタジオ・レコーディング音源とライヴ音源、そして 『 In The Court Of The Crimson King 』 の様々なテイク、リマスターを収録したボックスである。
    「Complete」というのは勿論はったりで、先ずライヴ音源に新たに発掘されたものは無く、未発掘の音源が未だ残っていることになる。 また今回のウリであるスタジオ・レコーディング音源においてもその全ては収録されていない。

    そのスタジオ・レコーディング音源は、2019年末に著作権保護対策から DGM Live から以下の通りダウンロード販売されたもののフィジカル化である。

    言葉を選ばず言うと、本作品はクリムゾンの作品なら何でも聴きたいと思う一部の方々向けの作品である。
    40th Anniversary Series のボックスには、新たな発掘音源が常に収録されていたが、本作品の音源は前述のスタジオ・レコーディング音源も DGM Live から既に発売されたものである。 リマスターはされているが、初出の音源はここには無い。

    今後も著作権保護対策を踏まえながら　The Complete xxxx Recordings シリーズはリリースされるのであろうが、そこに初出音源が含まれることを切に願う。

    色々な変節を経たチェスターフィールドの音源。
    『 Epitaph Volume Four 』でリリースされた後、 ” The Court Of The Crimson King ” を追加してリリース、その後さらに改訂版として ” I Talk To The Wind ” を追加している。
    その後チェスターフィールドに日付が9月7日から同月6日に変更されたタイミングと合わせて、本作品の4枚目と5枚目の曲順を入れ替えられ、今でも DGM Live からダウンロード販売されている。

    本作品のリリースにあたりアナウンスを独立した曲としてクレジットした他、曲順はオリジナル通りに戻されている。

    CD1枚に収めようとしたためか、フィルモア・イーストでのライヴはちょっと残念な編集となっている。

    フィルモア・イーストでの演奏は、先ず21日の音源のみが 『 Epitaph Volume One 』 でリリースされたのだが、その時は ” The Court Of The Crimson King ” 抜きの3曲であった。 その後 KCCC25の 『 Live At Fillmore East 1969 』 として21日、22日両日が収録され、かつ ”The Court Of The Crimson King ” が 「 fragment 」ながら追加された。
    そして更にその後 DGM Live から21日、22日が別々にダウンロード販売された際に、21日の ” The Court Of The Crimson King ” は全尺収録されている。

    ところがである。 本作品は 「 Additional audio restoration at DGM by Alex R Mundy (2020) 」 である一方、21日の ” The Court Of The Crimson King ” は全尺ヴァージョンではなく、「incomplete」（KCC25では「fragment」と表記）ヴァージョンに戻ってしまっている。

    6枚目までと異なり、 「 Additional audio restoration at DGM by Alex R Mundy (2020) 」 とのクレジットが無いため、そのまま収録されていると思われる。 音源がリストアされなかったこと以上に13日音源に新たな追加が無かったことが残念である。

    CD13 から CD18 にかけて収録されているウェセックス・スタジオでレコーディングされた音源をもとに、2020年にデヴィッド・シングルトンがミックスと編集をして1枚にまとめたもの。

    概ね ” The Court Of The Crimson King ”、” I Talk To The Wind ”、” Epitaph ”、” Moonchild ”、” 21st Century Schizoid Man ” の順に編集されているのだがアルバムの曲順でもないし、レコーディング順でもない独自の曲順となっている。

    キング・クリムゾンはファースト・アルバムをリリースするまで大きく分けて3回のレコーディングを行っており、CD13 から CD18 にかけてその音源が収録されている。 これらの音源は本作品がリリースされる前年の2019年末に著作権保護対策から DGM Live からダウンロード販売されており、その CD メディア化となる。

    1回目のレコーディングは、6月12日から19日にかけてモーガン・スタジオでトニー・クラークをプロデューサに迎えて行われたが、その際の音源は既発の ” 21st Century Schizoid Man ( Morgan Studios instrumental ) ” のみが収録されている。 ” I Talk To The Wind ” と ” Epitaph ” もレコーディングされたらしいが、残念ながら音源が残っていないものと思われる。

    2回目のレコーディングは、7月7日から16日にかけてウェセックス・スタジオでトニー・クラークをプロデューサに迎えて行われている。 本CDにはその際の ” Epitaph ” と ” I Talk To The Wind ” の一部が収録されている。

    前のCDから続き、” I Talk To The Wind ” が8テイク収録されている。 これで同曲は7月9日に12テイクレコーディングされたことになる。
    フリップがトニー・クラークをプロデューサーから外した理由の一つに同曲のリズム・コードを「夜通し繰り返させた」とコメントしているが、まさにこのことを指しているのだろう。

    トニー・クラークが ” I Talk To The Wind ” のレコーディングに固執した理由は、同曲の牧歌性が彼にとって馴染みのムーディー・ブルースに似ているためではないかと個人的には想像している。

    トニー・クラークをプロデューサーに迎えたレコーディングにおける最後の音源集。

    7月10日の次に16日に飛んでいいるが、実際には15日にもレコーディングは行われている。 本ディスク分に限らずクレジットされていない日にもレコーディングが行われているのだが、 1つのテープに複数日の音源が収まっているのか、本当に音源が残っていないのかよく判らない。
    だからといって、それを理由に 「Complete」 とまでは言いすぎだとか考えたりはせず、60周年盤で新たな音源とともに明らかになれば良いと気長に考えたほうが良い。

    As they form part of the recording sessions archive they are included here.

     

    本ディスクと次のディスクはDVDとなり、本ディスクには13枚目から18枚目までに収録されていた 『 In The Court Of The Crimson King 』 のレコーディング音源と、12枚目に収録されていたその編集音源 ” Let's Make A Hit Waxing ” が収録されている。
    ただ編集方法が CD とは異なっている。

    先ずDGM Live から2019年末にまとめてリリースされた音源+モーガン・スタジオでの ” 21st Century Schizoid Man ” が日付順に収録されている。

    一方で、13枚目から18枚目までに収録されていた「DGM Live から単独曲としてダウンロード販売されていた曲」であり、「DGM Live からの単独曲としてクレジットされている日付と本作品の13枚目から18枚目にクレジットされている日付が異なっている」4曲については、Stormy Selections として Additional Material の位置づけで収録されている。

    Giles, Giles & Fripp 音源としては、今までオリジナルの 『 The Cheerful Insanity Of Giles, Giles & Fripp 』、編集盤の 『 Metaphormosis 』 と 『 The Brondesbury Tapes [ 1968 ] 』 がリリースされているが、本ディスクは 『 The Brondesbury Tapes [ 1968 ] 』 がベースとなっており、2020年にデヴィッド・シングルトンによって新たにマスターされている。

    違いがあるとすれば、” Tremolo Study in A Major ” ではなく ” Tremolo Study in E Major ” となっている点である。
