In The Court Of The Crimson King - 40th Anniversary Series -2009-

2CD、CD+DVD、５CD+DVDの箱、という３形態で発表された、40th Anniversary Series の 『 In The Court Of The Crimson King 』。
CD+DVDを購入しても2CDのコンテンツの一部は含まれていない、でも5CD+DVDの箱を購入すると、2CDとCD+DVDのコンテンツは全て含まれることになる、という複雑な構成なのは、結局5CD+DVDの箱を購入しなさい、という事なのだと思う。

プラケースをこだわりの紙ジャケに変更した日本盤は即完売の状態のようだが、オリジナル・フォーマットに日本語ブックレットをつけた廉価盤をリリースし、本作品の偉業を日本国内で伝え続けて欲しい。

” Moonchild ”は、後半のインプロ・パートを割愛したものをオリジナルとし、インプロ・パート込みのものを「 full version 」と定義付けているのが特徴。
” I Talk To The Wind ” は、フリップとマクドナルドのデュオと、ソロが異なる２つのテイクを収録。
” Epitaph ” はそのまんま、バッキング・トラック。
” Wind Session ” は、” 21st Century Schizoid Man ” のイントロ・パートの元になった演奏。

BBC音源から、” I Talk To The Wind ” と ” 21st Century Schizoid Man ” の2曲を収録。
前者は初出、後者は、『 Epitaph 』 収録の音質改善版。
” The Court Of The Crimson King ” のモノ・シングルは盤起こしで収録。　「De-clicked」とはあるが、ノイズは残っている。

De-clicked vinyl transfer of the original stereo first Island Records issued pink label UK pressing Run. Sourced from two vinyl LPs - One of which is Robert Fripp's personal archive copy.

Alternate Album と題された本CDには、オリジナル・スタジオ・レコーディングからの全曲別テイクと、オリジナルのピンク・アイランド・レーベル2枚（内1枚はフリップ所有のもの）からの盤起こし全曲が収録されている。
「De-clicked」とはあるが、ノイズは結構残っている。

本CDは、1969年のライヴを2公演分収録している。
ハイド・パークのライヴは、KCCC12の 『 Live in Hyde Park 』 と同じもの。
フィルモア・イーストのライヴは、KCCC25の 『 Live at Fillmore East 』（11/21と11/22の両日を収録）と、DGM Live からリリースされている   『 Fillmore East, New York, N.Y., USA 』（11/21を収録） と聴き比べると、11/22の演奏であることがわかる。
KCCC25の 『 Live at Fillmore East 』 の ” The Court Of The Crimson King ” が「fragment」であるのに対し、ここではフル・レングスで収録されている。

ハイド・パークでのライヴ映像は、モノクロでかつ短時間で、貴重とはいえ物足りなさが残ってしまうのが残念である。 同ライヴでのローリング・ストーンズの映像がしっかりと残っているだけに、どこかから発掘される日を待ちたい。
