何故 『 Lizard 』 なのか、がやはりわからない。
スティーヴ・ウィルソンが一番気に入っているとか、5.1サラウンドに一番向いた作品だとか、事実なのかもしれないが
『 Lizard 』 である必然性を感じさせるには説得力に欠ける。
この辺りについては、40th Anniversary Series
が全てリリースされたあたりでフリップがコメントしてくれると嬉しいのだが、そのフリップ自身が、ベースをハスケルからレヴィンに差し替えた
『 Frame By Frame 』 収録の ” Bolero ”
を再度取り上げているわけで、単なるネタ提供なのかもしれない。
Bonus tracks について
” Lady Of The Dancing Water (alternate take ) ” は、ギター・レスのテイク。 後の 『 Islands 』 期のライヴで取り上げられた時のボズのヴォーカルは粗かったが、本テイクでのハスケルのヴォーカルも充分に下品なものである。トリオによる演奏の生々しさが感じられる一方、物足りなさも感じてしまう。 オリジナルのテイクがスタジオでのオーバー・ダヴィングによって造り込まれ完成した楽曲であることを、あらためて認識することができる。
前述したとおり、” Bolero (from Frame by Frame) ” の収録は、フリップによるネタ提供としか思えない。 ただ話題になるのが、ごく一部の世界にすぎないのがちょっぴり残念。
