録音状態の悪いオリジナル音源を、そのままハイレゾ化したものを含む、『 Earthbound 』 の 40th Anniversary Series。
CDにはオリジナルの 『 Earthbound 』 にプラス3曲、DVDには更に4曲が追加されている。
徒に曲数を増やした感も否めないが、DVDラストの2曲の「 extended 」ヴァージョンは興味深い。 ” The Sailor's Tale ”
は、オリジナルには短縮ヴァージョンとして収録されていたが、「 extended 」してその全編を収録している。
そして、オリジナルでは1972年3月10に演奏された ” Groon Peoria ” の前半を ” Peoria ”
として収録していたのに対し、そこに続くフリップのギター・ソロと短く編集したドラム・ソロ、そして「きよしこの夜」まで「 extended 」した上で ”
Groon ” として収録している。
DVDに収録された1972年3月12日のサミット・スタジオでの演奏は、2000年に The King Crimson Collectors' Club の 『 Live at Summit Studios 』 としてリリースされているが、それとは大きく異なる点がある。 本作品自体には明確なクレジットがされていないが、ボックスの 『 Sailors' Tales 』 にはデヴィッド・シングルトンによって異なったミックスと編集が施されているとクレジットされており、最も顕著なのは ” The Creator Has a Master Plan including Summit & Something Else ” である。 KCCC収録テイクが15分半の演奏であるに対し、本作収録テイクは40分弱にも及ぶ演奏となっている。
更に編集盤 『 The Ladies Of The Road 』 に収録されていた ” Schizoid Men Part 1-11 ”
も収録されているのだが、全体としてオリジナルの 『 Earthbound 』 をこねくり回した感が強い。
大変贅沢な感想なのだが、本作品全てを聴き終えると、オリジナルの 『 Earthbound 』
が聴きたくなるし、そして実際に聴いてみるとその素晴らしさを改めて認識することができる。
