ピード・シンフィールドがクリムゾン脱退後に発表したソロ・アルバム。
コンセプトメーカーであるシンフィールド自身が主人公になってしまったことが、本作品を微妙なものにしてしまっている。 平たく言うとシンフィールドのヴォーカルは、完成度が低い。
それを補うメンバーの一人としてグレッグ・レイクは参加しているのだが、その活躍度は地味なギター・ソロではなく、やはりヴォーカルに顕著に現れている。
『 Brain Salad Surgery 』 以降、シンフィールドがコンセプトや詩でELPへの関与する機会が増えるのだが、それはエマーソンの演奏に対抗するためにレイクが画策したことではないか睨んでいる。 だとすると本作へのレイクの参加というのは、そこまでを見越したしたたかな作戦だったのかもしれない。

グレッグ・レイクがプロデュースをし、マンティコアからリリースされた、ストレイ・ドッグの同名アルバム。
自分たちの目指す音楽が何かを模索しながらハード・ロックを演奏してみました、といった感じで、激しく盛り上がりかけたと思うと、梯子を外されたりする。　この辺りの中途半端さが原因でメジャーになれなかったと思うのだが、中途半端さに味があり魅力あるB級作品に仕上がっている。
レイクがプロデュースしているのは3曲。　プロデューサーとしてレイクが優れているわけではなく、他の曲との違いを見い出すのは困難。　なまじカッチリとプロデュースされて無難にまとまるよりも、良かったと思う。

ELPがうやむやのまま自然消滅した後、1981年8月のレディング・フェスティヴァルにおいてグレッグ・レイク・バンドとして突如復活したグレッグ・レイクのソロ・アルバム。
明確なクレジットこそされていないが、甘ったるいだけのバラードや大袈裟な産業ロック風の曲はTOTOのメンバーを含めたアメリカ録音、ゲイリー・ムーアがチュルチュルチュルと腰のない音で早弾きする曲がイギリス録音と推測される。　マネージャーにセッティングされたレコーディングを、マネージャーがセッティングしたメンバーと演奏しただけの作品であることは明らかで、個々の曲のメロディに惹かれるところはあるものの、総じてたいした作品ではない。
レディング以降も精力的にライヴをこなしていただけに、グレッグ・レイク・バンドとして確固たる作品を残しておいて欲しかったと思う。

ギターにゲイリー・ムーアをフィーチャーしたグレッグ・レイクのライヴ・アルバム。　8月のレディング・フェイスティヴァルでのお披露目、ファースト・ソロである 『 Greg Lake 』 のリリースに継いで行われたハマースミス・オデオンでのライヴで、キング・ビスケット用に収録されたもの。
クリムゾンのフアンの立場からすると、やはり気になるのは2曲のクリムゾン・ナンバー。 ロッキン・オン誌84号に掲載されているクリムゾン初来日時のフリップのインタビューによると、ゲイリー・ムーアはフリップのコピーに苦労したそうだが、ゲイリー・ムーアに限らずバンドとしての演奏はぎこちなく、たいしたものではない。
ただクリムゾン・ナンバーとゲイリー・ムーアの持ちネタである ” Parisienne Walkways ” での下品なタメを除けば、” Fanfare For The Common Man  ” でのギターの絡みや、” Nuclear Attack ” のギター・ソロは個人的には嫌いではない。　本サイトで最初に紹介するレイクのアルバムが本作、ELPファンにはさぞ恨まれることだろう。

グレッグ・レイクの2枚目のソロ・アルバム。　クレジットが明確にされていないが、前作 『 Greg Lake 』 と同時期にレコーディングされたものと思われる。
前作同様、ゲイリー・ムーアとの楽曲が半分、スタジオ・ミュージシャンと制作したバラードが半分という構成。　やはり本気で、レイクをバラード・シンガーとして売り出そうとしていた可能性が強い。
売り出す側としてみれば、クリストファー・クロスの例もあるので多少のルックスの問題は目をつぶったのかもしれないが、やはりレイク自身がそれを良しとしなかったのではないかと思う。　ライヴでムーアと組んだのも、その表れだと思いたい。
それだけに、エイジアへの中途半端な参加などしてないで、しっかりとしたソロ活動をしてほしかった。

グレッグ・レイクが参加しているエイジア・イン・エイジアの、多分最終形態になるだろう作品。 映像版としては Laser Disc でリリースされた内容と新たにリミックスして曲目追加したもの収録、音声版としては MTV で中継された日とその前日分が収録されている。
MTV のヴィデオ・ジョッキー（死語か？）による、「ろっくノ ヨウイ、イイデスカ (Are ready Rock) 」 と 「ろっくシヨッカ (Let's Rock)」 といった日本語直訳の煽りにいきなり脱力してしまうが、ウェットンが大好きな ” Don't Cry ” はやはり演奏しないんだなぁとか、” The Smile Has Left Your Eyes ” をキーボードのみで唄うレイクはやはりバラード・シンガーだなぁとか、静止状態から突然動き出すハウのギター・アクションや上半身裸になるパーマーのドラム・ソロは古典芸能の域だなぁとか、キーボードはステージに横一列に並べるより古典的なU字配置の方が効率出来だなとか、とか、とか、とか、もういつまでもを突っ込みながら楽しむことができる。
とにかく映像版は無限リピートが可能な作品だと思うので、多くの人に手に取ってもらいたい。

ASIA in ASIA です。
MTVでの放送がセッティングされた中、ウェットン脱退&グレッグ・レイク加入というウルトラCで敢行されたライヴ。 映像、音源ともブートで散々リリースされたあげく、完全に期を逸した2001年に公式（多分）CD化されている。 とは言っても、ここまでくると何をもって公式というのかも曖昧なもので、ユルユルになった版権の間隙を縫ってリリースされた作品といったところ。
レイクの演奏は、一切のおかずなしにルートを中心としたスコア通りのもので面白さはない。　また、ヴォーカルも時折フェイクを交えた適当なもので、完全にお仕事モード。

グレッグ・レイクとジェフ・ダウンズによる頓挫したプロジェクト、ライド・ザ・タイガーのマテリアル集。
1989年から90年にかけてのレコーディングがレイクにとってどういう時期かと言うと、EL & Powell から EL & Palmer 再結成の間で、平たく言うとうだつが上がらなかった期間である。 それ故、ASIA in ASIA で知り合った2人が音楽と人間関係を熟成した上でのプロジェクトではなく、お互いの活動状況を踏まえた上での利害関係によって成り立った作品である。 後の ASIA や  EL & Palmer で使いまわされた楽曲が含まれているという点を差し引いても、新鮮味は無い。
とは言え、離散集合を繰り返すプログレ人脈を理解するために、歴史を学ぶように聴くべき作品である。

1997年に発売された 『 The Greg Lake Retrospective 』 を正統的な表ベスト・アルバムとするならば、その翌年に発売された本作品は裏編集盤といったところ。　前者がオフィシャルな流通ルートで販売されたのに対し、本作品はレイクのサイトでのみ販売されている。　選曲に脈絡は全くないが、個々の曲については充分に楽しむことができる。
盤おこしではあるが、シェイムやシャイ・リムスといった初期のレコーディングではレイクの若々しいヴォーカルを確認することができる。　原盤などとても手の届かない存在なので、嬉しい限りである。
また、EL & Powell のライヴが収録されているのも嬉しい。　EL & Palmer のライヴは玉石多くの作品がリリースされているが、この時期 EL & Powell の公式ライヴ音源をリリースしたのは、パウエルへの追悼と思える。
その他にも、ゲイリー・ムーアの腰砕けのギターが収録されている海賊盤音源や、自虐的とも思えるエイジアの武道館音源など、ネタとして秀逸なものが多く収録されている。

リンゴ・スターによる2001年のオール・スター・バンドのライヴ。
ハワード・ジョーンズが ” No One Is To Blame ” を、シーラEが ” Glamorous Life ” を、そしてイアン・ハンターが ” All The Young Dudes ” を演奏するライヴであるが故に、グレッグ・レイクは当然 ” Lucky Man ” を演奏している。　
ウェットンの代役でエイジアで演奏することができるレイクの性格が、最良なアウトプットを出した作品だと思う。　クリムゾン関係で他にできそうな人はウェットンくらいかもしれない。　間違ってもフリップにはできない。　あ、できない以前にオール・スター・バンドに適したヒット曲は無いか．．．
是非を考えることが全く無意味な、只々楽しめば良いライヴがそのままパッケージされている良盤である。

The Who のグレッグ・レイクの発掘音源集第２弾。　彼が以前に所属していたELPというバンドのライヴに混じって、未発表のスタジオ・アウトテイクが収録されている。
などという冗談はさておき、本作品のウリは失敗に終わったジェフ・ダウンズとのライド・ザ・タイガーから3曲、『 Greg Lake 』 レコーディング時を中心に行われたTOTOのメンバーとのセッションから3曲収録されていることである。　　ジェフ・ダウンズによるなさけないシンセの音が耳障りな前者はともかく、後者のレヴェルは高い。　後者の楽曲を聴いていると、マネジメント・サイドは結構本気でレイクをバラード・シンガーとして売り出そうとしていたのではないかと思えてくる。　そう思わせるだけのクオリティは充分にあり、ひょっとしたら売れちゃったりしたかも、などと思えてくる。
『 Greg Lake 』 にゲイリー・ムーア入りの対極の作品が収録されていたのは、バラード・シンガーに成り下がることを嫌ったレイクのこだわりなのかもしれない。　そんなことを考えていると、散漫な印象があった 『 Greg Lake 』 が、レイクの葛藤が反映された味わい深い作品と思えてくる。
尚、” Love Under Fire ” は、『 The Greg Lake Retrospective From The Beginning 』 収録テイクとは異なり、マイケル・ジャイルズは演奏に参加していない。

The Rock Odyssey 2004 で初来日直前のフーのベスト・アルバム。　これが来日記念日本独自企画などではないところが、ライヴ・バンドとしてのフーの現役度の高さを物語っている。
レイクがフーに参加、との情報が流れた時は混乱したし、その位置づけに我流の解釈を色々試みてみたりもした。　リズムをキープしながらもギターのようにリフを弾きまくるところにジョン・エントウィッスルとレイクに共通点があるのではないか、と強引に考えてみたりもした。　ただやはり ” My Generation ” を演奏するレイクの姿は想像できず、違和感だけが残ってしまった。　The Rock Odyssey 2004 での帯同が流れてしまったのは残念だが、ほっとしたのも事実である。
レイクが参加している唯一の新曲が ” Real Good Looking Boy ”。　ヤマが何回もくるような豪快な曲展開がフーならではの佳曲。　逆に言えば、フーとしての完成度の高い曲の中では「レイクらしさ」を主張することはできず、セッション・プレイヤーであることは否めない。

グレッグ・レイクのライヴ・アルバム。
カラオケをバックに自らの音楽歴を振り返りながら展開されるライヴ、と文字にするとネガティヴになってしまうが、企画としては大成功である。
そこそこ以上の活動歴のあるミュージシャンが、過不足が感じられない選曲＆アレンジでヒストリー・ライヴをやるには、コストが高くついてしまう。 それでもスタジアムを満員にするだけの集客力があればビッグ・マネーが期待できるのだろうが、残念ながらそこまでいかないミュージシャンにとって、レイクのこの試みは画期的である。 生演奏に拘らない、という発想の転換で、納得できる内容を機動力良く展開することが可能になるからだ。 2013年にレイクのソロ来日公演が実現したのは、この試みだからこそだと思う。
新しいフアン層を開拓することは無いだろうが、従来からのフアンに違和感が感じさせない本作品は素晴らしい。

2017年11月24日の Black Friday 2017で発売されたオリジナル作品。
ジャケットに貼られたシールには、「 Greg Lake 1947-2016 」と記載されており、亡くなったレイクに対する追悼の意が込められている。A面には1975年のオリジナル・ヴァージョン、B面には2002年ヴァージョンが収録されている。
45 r.p.m. の10インチ白色ディスクは、レコードとしての現物感が薄く、そこだけが残念である。
